What is Lead?

Lead is a mineral that was used in paints, car batteries, gasoline, tin cans and pottery.  Lead dust can poison anyone who swallows or breathes it for a long time.  It affects the brain and nervous system.

Who can be Lead Poisoned?

Anyone can be lead poisoned, but kids under 6 are most likely to be poisoned.

When are kids lead poisoned?

Kids between 6 months and 6 years are most likely to be poisoned. This is the time when they are crawling, putting toys in their mouths, and playing in dirt. 

Where are kids lead poisoned?

Kids are usually lead poisoned at home, daycares, and schools especially if the home was built before 1978.  Houses built before 1978 are the most likely to contain lead paint. 

How are kids lead poisoned?

Kids are poisoned by eating lead paint in housing built before 1978 and also by breathing and swallowing dust or dirt that is contaminated with lead.
